Traveler Clearance Program

McKinley Station Traveler Clearance

The formal credentialing process for all individuals seeking authorization to travel to, reside aboard, or work within McKinley Station.

McKinley Station is a permanent orbital environment. Access is not discretionary — it requires formal clearance covering identity verification, medical fitness, safety training, microgravity adaptation, and, for operational personnel, systems certification. Clearance is administered by MSOC Traveler Clearance in coordination with MSOC Security and the McKinley Medical Authority.

Traveler Classification

Permanent Resident

Full station authorization for residential modules, shared areas, and role-specific work zones. Medical renewal annually. Full training suite required.

Operational Crew

Authorization matched to operational assignment. Systems certification required. Shift-based access to engineering, life-support, and command zones.

Contractor

Limited authorization to contracted work zones. Escort required in restricted areas. Duration-limited credential with specific scope of work registered.

Authorized Visitor

Access restricted to visitor-designated areas and common spaces. Escort required at all times outside visitor zones. Maximum 30-day visits.

Clearance Process

Steps marked as required must be completed by all travelers. Additional steps apply to specific role classifications.

01

Identity Verification & Background Screening

Required — All Travelers

All travelers must present verifiable government-issued identification and submit to a comprehensive background screening conducted by MSOC Security. Background screening includes criminal history review, financial screening for individuals in operational roles, prior space operator history verification, and international security coordination checks. Screening results are reviewed by a qualified MSOC Security Officer before clearance proceeds.

Requirements Checklist

  • Government-issued photo identification (passport required for non-national travel)
  • Biometric enrollment — fingerprint and retinal scan
  • Background screening consent and release form
  • Prior orbital travel history declaration (if applicable)
  • Conflict of interest and affiliation disclosure
02

Medical Fitness Certification

Required — All Travelers

Orbital residency and transit impose unique physiological demands. All travelers must obtain a McKinley Medical Fitness Certificate from an MSOC-designated Aerospace Medical Examiner (AME). The certificate validates cardiovascular fitness, psychological screening, visual acuity, vestibular function, bone density baseline, and absence of conditions contraindicated for microgravity exposure.

Requirements Checklist

  • Cardiovascular stress test and ECG — within 90 days of departure
  • Psychological fitness evaluation — initial and periodic renewal
  • Vestibular and balance assessment
  • Bone mineral density baseline scan
  • Visual and audiological assessment
  • Current medications and conditions disclosure
  • Physician attestation — treating physician
  • AME certification — MSOC-designated examiner
03

Safety & Emergency Procedures Training

Required — All Travelers

All travelers must complete the McKinley Station Safety and Emergency Procedures course before departure. The course is delivered via MSOC-approved training providers and covers station orientation, emergency egress procedures, fire response, pressure suit operations, emergency communication protocols, evacuation vehicle operations, and first aid in microgravity.

Requirements Checklist

  • Station orientation and zone familiarization
  • Emergency egress — routes, vehicles, and procedures
  • Fire detection and suppression procedures
  • Pressure emergency and suit operations
  • Emergency communication protocols and priority channels
  • Evacuation vehicle crew procedures
  • Microgravity first aid and medical emergency response
  • Written proficiency examination — minimum passing score 85%
04

Microgravity Adaptation Training

Required — All Travelers

First-time travelers and those returning after an absence of 24 months or more must complete McKinley Microgravity Adaptation Training at an MSOC-recognized facility. Training includes parabolic flight familiarization, movement and mobility fundamentals, spatial orientation, equipment operation in weightlessness, and food and hydration management.

Requirements Checklist

  • Parabolic flight orientation — minimum 4 sessions
  • Movement and locomotion in microgravity
  • Equipment handling and tool operation
  • Spatial orientation and disorientation mitigation
  • Nutrition and hydration management in microgravity
  • Sleep management in the orbital environment
05

Station Systems Awareness Certification

Required — Operational Roles

Travelers occupying operational or technical roles aboard McKinley Station must additionally complete Station Systems Awareness Certification covering the systems relevant to their role. Operational crew must demonstrate proficiency with life-support monitoring, power management, communication systems, and emergency shut-off procedures for their assigned areas.

Requirements Checklist

  • Life-support system monitoring and alert response
  • Power management and circuit isolation
  • Communications systems operation
  • Emergency shutdown and isolation procedures
  • Role-specific systems qualification
06

Credential Issuance & Zone Authorization

Required — All Travelers

Upon completion of all required clearance elements, MSOC Traveler Clearance issues a McKinley Station Traveler Credential. The credential specifies the traveler's authorized access zones, role classification, duration of authorization, and any conditions or restrictions. Credentials are biometrically linked and managed in the MSOC Access Control System.

Requirements Checklist

  • McKinley Station Traveler Credential — biometric-linked smart card
  • Zone authorization matrix — listed on credential
  • Role classification: Resident / Operational Crew / Visitor / Contractor
  • Credential validity period — up to 24 months, renewable
  • Emergency contact and medical alert registration
  • Compliance with McKinley Station Code of Conduct

Important: Processing Timelines

Full traveler clearance requires a minimum of 90 days from initial application to credential issuance for first-time travelers, and a minimum of 45 days for returning travelers with current background screening on file. Clearance processing cannot be expedited except under declared operational necessity with MSOC Command approval. Travelers are advised to begin clearance proceedings no later than 120 days before intended departure.
